Description

Introduction

Hualink’s SMP male connector uses shield attachment of solder attachment for the contact.

Our male SMP PCB connector provides a minimum frequency of DC and a maximum frequency of 20 GHz.

SMP coaxial connectors are available as smooth bore, catchers mitt, limited detent and full detent versions

SMP connectors are mateable with GPO™ connectors.

FAQ

1. DEFINITIONS

● Coplanar ground plane spacing = trace width + gap + gap. This is the distance from the inside edge of one top ground plane to the inside edge of the other top ground plane.

● Microstrip-to-coplanar transition = When using microstrip on a multilayer board or on a board where the microwave ground is not accessible, then a microstrip-to-coplanar transition should be used.

● Transition Block = The portion of the End Launch connector assembly where the high frequency signal transition from the coax connector onto the printed circuit board.

● Ground stitching = These are vias connecting the top ground planes with the substrate ground. The purpose of the vias is to ensure both coplanar ground planes stay at the same potential. The best placement of these is near the trace at a distance of ¼ wavelength of the highest frequency.

3. Power Handling Capability

There are 2 types of power handling (expressed in watts) that must be considered

● Average Power

Average Power - the input power to a cable/connector which will produce a maximum safe center conductor temperature under steady-state conditions when terminated with a matched load.

A safe center conductor temperature is one that will not melt the dielectric.

● Peak Power

Peak Power-is limited by the voltage rating of the connector. The peak power is determined by the equation V^2/Z where V=the peak voltage rating and Z is the characteristic impedance
